Art is a collaborative process for us. We work on our pieces simultaneously and sometimes sequentially. Our work is abstract and primarily minimal, using photographs with paint on paper, assemblages of photographs on plywood and acrylic paint on canvas.

When we saw the soft, rolling sculptural shape of this case, it inspired us to create a three dimensional assemblage. While we often work on our projects without a plan, to allow “chance” to have a role in the finished product, in this instance we planned much of our desired outcome to take advantage of the shape of the case and the requirements of the project.

The exterior, at a distance, appears abstract; but upon closer viewing was influenced by visual images of sky, horizon and sea. The interior is lined with a paper and paint mixed media combination of bars and stripes to create “flag” images throughout. All surfaces are sealed and finished to create a unified object.

The result, we believe, is a simple, abstract work in keeping with our current interests, while also referencing the environmental, political and international origins of our country.

Bio

Our work reflects a long and ongoing collaboration in all aspects of our lives. We enjoy how that collaboration takes shape as we approach each medium and theme that interests us. Currently

those mediums include mixed media combining photography, paper and paint, photographic assemblages on board and acrylic paintings on canvas.
Our work reflects our interest in minimalism, with rigid lines, grids, monochromatic color and attention to finished surfaces. We attempt to utilize those qualities to create work that reflects a sense of peace, simplicity and order that we value in our daily lives.

In 2005, we have been juried into eight regional shows and received the top mixed media award at the 65th Juried Exhibition at Woodmere Art Museum and two awards for works entered in the MCGOPA Collage and Mixed Media Exhibition. Also, one of our images was selected to be included in the InLiquid Design Network 2005 calendar.
