Kimi Kaplowitz

I chose to use the theme of travel to create a design for A Case for Art. The entire case is covered with world maps, a current one on the interior, and an antique-looking one on the exterior. The inside of the case contains numerous butterflies that float on fish wire and springs. All of the insects are made of maps. All of the butterflies are no more than 3 inches across. The butterflies are painted to look like monarchs, because this species is known to travel great distances.

Bio

Kimi Kaplowitz was born in Flemington, NJ, in 1983. Both of her parents were artists who encouraged her sense of creativity and curiosity in science and nature. When she was 10 years old she spent half a year living in Zurich, Switzerland, and attending a German-speaking school. She attended Hopewell Valley Central High School, where she executed several independent studies, concentrating on drawing the figure, sculpting, and painting. Upon Graduating she began attending Moore College of Art and Design, where she is currently a rising senior majoring in 3D Fine Art. She enjoys traveling and has visited Switzerland, Italy, Ireland, England, and numerous locations
