Claire Marcus

This Case for Art has a silver lining. It contains copper wire sculpted into words describing qualities useful to artists, or to any citizen aiming to fulfill their promise and contribute to the community. It is covered and lined with hand-felted wool/mohair and embellished with metallic and other threads.

Bio

I am a 5th generation fiber artist, and a beneficiary of Franklin’s efforts through a BA in architecture and MFA in painting from the University of Pennsylvania. My recent work includes narrative textile panels that depict inspiring friends and family members. These pieces have been shown at Brandeis University, the Goldstein Museum of Design in St. Paul, the Ohio Crafts Museum, the Textile Center in Minneapolis, and the Banana Factory art center in Bethlehem, where I was a resident artist for 5 years. I am on the faculty of Marywood University, and have conducted more than one hundred school residencies and community arts projects as an Artist in Education for the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
