Artist Statement

Artistically descended from abstract expressionism, Wind’s work has been described as “drawing in space.”  Instead of pen and paper, the artist works with cast-off materials such as abandoned car parts, trashed pewter teapots and discarded tools.  She rearranges this detritus, the bane on the urban landscape, into lyrical sculptures accented by deep glowing colors and three-dimensional lines.

The wall-hung pieces play with literal space, from the wall behind the sculpture to the work’s most frontal surface.  Using narrow bars as frames to define the outer boundaries, the artist welded together found objects to create a contained yet complex visual “story” of negative and positive space, line and mass, push and pull.

Born in Israel, Wind came to the United States in 1963.  She studied at the Barnes and received her MA from the University of Pennsylvania.  She has exhibited extensively throughout the United States in solo and group shows.
