Isaiah Zagar’s
“Birthday Party In the Art Garden”

          Through April 13

Hundreds came for birthday cake and stayed to enjoy the new art garden at Isaiah Zagar’s “Birthday Party in the Art Garden,” the first in a series of art events sponsored by Philadelphia Sculptors in the unfinished space at the Reading Terminal Headhouse.

Zagar, whose trademark mirrored mosaics can be seen on buildings throughout Philadelphia, is a new member of Philadelphia Sculptors, a local non-profit arts group dedicated to promoting sculpture. He filled the rough 2700-square-foot space of the Headhouse with his artwork and invited members, as well as the public to participate by adding their artwork as well.

“We want to welcome the public to join us in this art birthday celebration,” said Leslie Kaufman, president of Philadelphia Sculptors.

Philadelphia Sculptors helped Zagar assemble and install elements of his South Street garden in its new temporary location.

“It’s very important that they participate,” said Zagar. “It will be a shared responsibility and a shared wonderment.”

The public is welcome to stroll through Zagar’s “Art Garden” during daylight hours until April 13.
