New Forms in Nature

Check out innovative art in a natural outdoor setting!

Philadelphia Sculptors has partnered with The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education in Roxborough to create an alternative art venue with its installation of "Art in the Environment: New Forms in Nature." Four sculptors (3 are PS members) created temporary outdoor installations relating to nature and the environment.

See them through December 31, 2002 along the walking trails of the 500 acre nature preserve.

Public Art Curator and Consultant Marsha Moss selected the proposals of three Philadelphians and one Vermonter. Known for his dedication to environmental issues and his previous use of rabbit imagery, Warren Angle introduces updated rabbits who also have surprising magical qualities. Bill Botzow shows his sensitivity to the issues of conservation in the Delaware Valley in his enigmatic construction highlighting the problems of invasive species. Knox Cummin creates a "hatching egg" of wood and vines, which also serves as a place for observation of wildlife activity. Artist Gina Michaels and landscape architect Lisa Becker have collaborated to include a bronze sculpture within their sanctuary made of natural materials.

The opening reception is scheduled for Sunday, June 23, 2002 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., on the Center's grounds, located at 8480 Hagy's Mill Road, Philadelphia.

Directions and more information are available at 215-842-7300, www.schuylkillcenter.org

This exhibition was made possible with funding from the
