Spring 2000 General Meeting

    Strategies for Success
in the Art Market

University of the Arts,
CBS Auditorium Broad and Pine Philadelphia Sunday, April 9, 2000
1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

At this year's annual meeting PS is presenting an art forum and networking opportunity targeted at emerging artists and anyone else looking for innovative ways to succeed in the art world.

Philadelphia artist Ron Klein will show a video and slides about his recent work in Burma where he collaborated with villagers to produce artwork from fish netting. He will also discuss funding and give tips on getting grants.

Artists Scott Rigby, David Dempewolf and Justin Matherly, members of the collaborative "BaseKamp," will give insights into how they produce their wry conceptual art, run their own gallery, and work as fabricators for big-name artists like Sol Lewit and Seward Johnson -- and big name venues like the Institute for Contemporary Art (ICA), all while they are still enrolled as undergraduates at the University of Pennsylvania.

Artists can also learn about a new web site, "theartbiz.com" created by local Internet art entrepreneurs and billed as "a fun guide to the business of being an artist."

Following the forum, the PS will convene its annual business meeting, also open to the public. Students are especially welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.
