Marie Weaver

The physical, emotional and political environment affects my art. I have a need to speak back to the issues that keep “speaking” to me. In making figurative work, I feel as if I’m having a conversation about what’s bothering me in my world. When I’m satisfied with the piece, perhaps it will also speak to others.

My work of the last decade has primarily been made of clay. After years of working on the computer as a graphic designer, I was drawn to the physicality of natural materials. I love the creativity and observational demands of manipulating forms in space, the intellectual engagement of solving technical and conceptual problems, and the hazard of chance introduced both by the materials and the firing process. The breadth of my work and a full resume are available on my website.
