Artist Statement
The men and women I sculpt, represent
Every Man and Every Woman, in short the human condition. I wish to emphasize
how we all share the experience of the ordeals of life. We are all unique
little fires of light that can burn to shed light and warmth for others
when we choose to. When I sculpt images of vulnerability, I aim to awaken
compassion in the viewer and remind the viewer of the humanity of others
as well as remind him of his own humanity.
When I sculpt images of beings that have courage and strength, it is to
remind the viewer of the latent strength in us all. We often need to be
reminded of our own inner strength when we feel lost and stumble towards
the light .
Sometimes I sculpt those who are powerless and suffering because of the
injustice of social systems that are indifferent. This kind of sculpture
I create to catalyze change. It is a call to action and a wake up call
to those of us who have become callous to our less fortunate fellow earthlings.
In my work, affirming the sacredness of life is central.
