Christoph Spath

My sculptures are primarily carved in stone and often combined with glass and light. I am interested in forms of ancient origin. They are forms such as the column, the portal, the wheel or simple tool shapes.

My sculptures start out as a block of stone which I select in the quarry. I then begin carving directly into the stone, searching for a balance between the natural stone and the man made form. The glass filled voids that often appear in my work represent the inner space, the soul if you will.
