David Ascalon

Artist Statement

The foundation of my work is my heritage—Jewish tradition melded with an artistic lineage, and built on the premise that an artist should give something of himself to others. Born in Israel in 1945, I received my early artistic training from my father, Maurice Ascalon (formerly Klein) founder of Israel's renowned Pal Bell decorative arts company. I came to the US as a teenager, studied art at Ucal Northridge, and received my architectural degree from NY's Pratt Institute. Throughout the 1970's, I worked in the field of architecture but soon left in search of a more immediate means of expression.

In 1977 I relocated to southern NJ where I established Ascalon Studios. I have found my life's work designing and creating monumental sculpture, art objects, and architectural art (in all media) primarily for synagogues and public spaces.
