Artist StatementMy spiritual connectedness to Nature unites my soul with the eternal rhythms of creation. I sense a universal energy, a breath that sculpts all natural forms as mountains, water, plants, animals, and the human body. The only constant that I believe exists is this perpetual energy that we experience through these physical manifestations. My work is about the gesture, rhythm, and movement of this energy. Some artists think in pictures, I think in form and space. Clay allows me to speak spontaneously and intuitively as my fingers press, pull, and imprint reflections of these forces in the language of a three dimension sculpture. There is a feminine, figurative quality to my work because the creation emanates so directly from my inner consciousness as I work. I often begin with a narrative and proceed to get immersed in an improvisational conversation with the form and space that evolve. In this way, my art makes tangible that which is not…to give form to that which is formless…to visualize breath and energy by materializing the physical structures left behind.
