Perky Cohen

Artist Statement

Perky Cohen sculpts in a variety of materials, but favors wood. She feels there is natural warmth to the medium and that the grain of the wood gives a flow that lends a sensual quality to her sculptures. Human emotions are her specialty. Loneliness, sadness, love and introspection seem to involve her deeply although occasionally she will create a humorous piece.

Sculpting in clay or plaster allows greater opportunity to explore the effects of negative space. This excites Perky and is a welcome change from the constants of wood. Here she has the opportunity to manipulate forms and make major changes that are not usually possible in wood.
