Artist Statement
Won Jung Choi's approach to her work may be called that of an artist/poet/researcher.
Her images, which are abstract in essence, evoke deeply subjective experiences,
dream states and memories.
Her sculptural forms grow out of the human figure, drapery and the natural
landscape, which often merge together to reveal a spiritual meaning. She
makes diverse associations very much in the tradition of Henry Moore and
David Smith, sculptors much admired by Choi.
Her sculptural language expresses the feeling of the mystery of the world,
life and existence. It is a way to see ourselves in nature and nature
in us. Though spontaneous in spirit, her work has a carefully ordered
structure.
